  • Montreal, Canada 30th Congress Location

Those who had the pleasure of attending the 30th International Epilepsy Congress no doubt had the pleasure of enjoying the host city. The Congress served to showcase Montreal, Canada. It was the first time that an Epilepsy Conference had the pleasure of being in a North American city in 30 years.

    Communication

There were many benefits to Montreal, Quebec, for those that got out of the venue and explored the city a bit. It is the second largest French-speaking city in the world, aside from Paris. Most of the citizens are bilingual, speaking both French and English. Montreal is a melting pot of people from all parts of the world.

    Cuisine

Montreal is known for its food. It is the city that has the highest number of restaurants per capita in Canada. In fact, it even rivals the U.S. and comes in second in North America behind New York. The main cuisine is cosmopolitan, as to be expected, but usually, food has a French touch. And since the French are renowned for their food, Montreal brings together the best of everything perfected by the masters in cooking.

    Famous Park Founder

People who visited may have wondered how the city got its name. It was built around the park, Mont Royal. This park on the mountain was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same person who designed New York City’s Central Park. While Central Park is more famous than Mont Royal, it is certainly worth checking out a park designed by Olmsted.

    The Underground City

One of the major attractions of Montreal has to be the underground city. It is a series of tunnels that run for over 32 kilometers. These tunnels connect everything from shopping malls to metro stations and banks. It is strange though that the tunnels are most used in the summer to escape the heat. In a city where winter tires are a mandatory requirement for drivers, this is quite fascinating.

    Amusement Park

It may not have Disney Land, but Montreal still has a sizable amusement park that is the second largest in all of Canada. La Ronde has ten roller coasters and attracts 3 million visitors per year. This was probably a great attraction for the young at heart from the Congress who were looking to blow off some steam after days of long studying.

    Famous Export

Also, what would a trip to Quebec be without maple syrup? This province provides more than 85% of the world’s maple syrup. So without Quebec’s exports, the world might be devoid of this delicious, pure liquid. It gives a unique flavor to breakfast foods but also to other delicacies such as yogurt and cookies. Hopefully, patrons of the Congress at least had a chance to try some signature treats like maple syrup cookies.

    Montreal, a Unique City

Montreal, Canada gave a unique flair to the 30th International Epilepsy Congress. The city has fantastic food, signature treats, attractions, and even tunnels to beat any adverse weather. With a venue like that, people were sure to have enjoyed venturing beyond the congress venue.
